Paco-Paco!
The new empress of the Raalgon empire, following her father's death, Azalyn steps up to the throne at a decisive moment in history. War is about to be declared against the UPSF, for the death of their beloved emperor. The series opens with Azalyn receiving news of her father's death and her new assent to the throne. Although a young girl, Azalyn forces herself to put her grief and confusion aside in public in order to lead her people. However, in private, she is mournful of her father's death and unsure of what to do; go with what Wang and her people want and declare war? Or is there a different path?
It is during one of these private moments that Azalyn is interrupted by Ru Baraba Dom, captain of one of her fleets. The girl attempts to show her authority at Dom's impertinence, but the man tells her that it is quite normal for a girl to cry. In fact, it is comforting to know that the empress is still a girl with feelings. Azalyn angrily tells him to forget he ever saw her behaving in such a way. Dom merely smiles and gives the girl some words of wisdom about the war. Azalyn soon grows to trust the man and promises to remember his name.
Throughout the war, Azalyn frequently comes to Dom for advice and information. It is through Dom that Azalyn learns of one Captain Justy Ueki Tylor, a man who single-handedly destroyed one of their fleets with a broken down destroyer. Azalyn expresses to Dom, who believes Tylor is a true military genious, her wish to meet this Tylor, and her wish is later granted when Tylor is captured by Raalgon forces. Sneaking a midnight snack, she finds the prisoner already in the kitchen, happily eating. She soon befriends Tylor and begins to fall for him. When the two are found, she makes Tylor her beloved pet and names him "Paco-Paco," giving him liberty to say what he wishes, including letting on to Wang that he knows Wang is up to no good.
Angry, Wang has Tylor brain-washed, to rid him of any feelings for his crew onboard the Soyokaze, and inserts a computer chip into Tylor's head. Once this is accomplished, he decides to attempt to kill Azalyn, to gain power for himself. However, Tylor foils this attempt, saving Azalyn in an explosion, though seriously hurting himself. Her pet injured, Azalyn sees that she has no choice but to return Paco-Paco to the crew of the Soyokaze to save his life. However, she comes along for the ride, joining in crew's fun for awhile until she comes to realize that she must return and lead her people, before her presence onboard the Soyokaze can cause more harm in the war.
Once again in lead of her people, Azalyn is soon forced to make tough decisions that could affect the entire outcome of the war. However, she is unsure of who to listen to. Wang and all his logic? Dom? Her final decision determines the entire outcome of history.
Azalyn is a young girl forced to make some very important decisions. She has a strong heart, but her indecisiveness makes her an easy target for manipulation from the likes of Wang. Like many teenage girls, she does all she can to get what she wants. Though she can sometimes be selfish to get those wants, she matures with time and comes to realize her importance in this war and how much weight her choices carry. She loves Tylor, though he seems to view her as just a friend. Loving and adorable, she is loved by her people.
